I was at Four Winds for 8 days, just got out about 5 days ago, they were thinking of keeping me for 2 weeks because they were contemplating putting me on Lithium despite me constantly saying how much of a good fit the meds they already had me on were.. The staff are beyond rude and dont care about the mental health of their patients and it was crystal clear to everyone staying there, everytime one of us would be going through a crisis their only means of addressing it would be to complete drug us on meds in order to sedate us just for that moment. Every answer to the problems of the patients would be MEDS instead of approaching them in a more therapuetical sense which would have been much more beneficial. Very restricted and cut off from the outside world, little to nothing to do at all hours of the day, extremely poor daily routine. Most of the girls there were very coherent and listened to everything the staff would tell them and then next thing you know the staff would decide to keep them for weeks on end past their original discharge date for being "belligerent" . absolutely ridicoulous. One of the worst experiences of my life- went in there with positivity and an open mind and through the help of other patients there and the staff I came out of the place with even more of an anger problem and severe depression as they completely looked the depression ive been struggling with for 4+ years and took me off all my antidepressants, along with dismissing my ADD along with those meds as they chose to only focus on my 'bipolar disorder'. Staff looks at patients as if they are absolutely insane instead of lost souls just needing alittle guidance in life. Most of the patients in there could not wait to get out of that place just so they can go back to their bad habits in life, and i honestly dont blame them, this place did absolutely nothing to help anyone but instead had them itching to go back to their terrible lives just so they could get out of that hell hole.

They did nothing to help me. All they wanted to do is give me pills and they would get mad when I refuse them. They put you in groups and they'll talk about nothing. It has been the worst experience I've ever lived. DON'T COME HERE PLEASE FOR YOUR OWN GOOD!!!!!!

DO. NOT. SEND. ANYONE. HERE. I had got out of this place fortunately 4 months ago. Kids were locked in padded rooms, drugged, and cut off from the world. The staff is rude and obnoxious and doesn't care about you. Most people there don't deserve to be there but have someone in the situation manipulating the child. Please for your own good don't send anyone here. If you do, have a parent or legal guardian sign a form for them to speak to you within 72 hours. Also, DO NOT CONSENT TO MEDICATION.

I went here in 2009 and my experience was mostly good. However, my sister was hospitalized in 2013 (and was in the same part of the hospital that I had been- Lodge). Her experience was unbelievable (in the worst sense). I don't know what the heck is going on over there these days but if the rating given to this hospital is just over 2 out of 5 stars then I don't know if there will be any bouncing back. I also heard from a mental health worker at the Westchester division of NY Presbyterian Weill-Cornell that mental health workers at 4W get extremely low wages.

I was there from November 2014 to December 17 2014. Honestly with all the bad reviews below I think they may be speaking on a separate section I was in deer field and the staff were amazing. Within a week I was being evaluated and having therapy with Heather whose really understanding and the group's were pretty good too. There's school of course but only for like 2 hours or so. You can choose not to go to groups and etc but it's recommended that you do. There's a schedule for music, art & etc. That was my first time going there and despite my anxiousness it turned out pretty well. Can't say i'm like completely fine now but being there helped me come to terms with stuff.
